DueHelper — Privacy Policy

DueHelper is a browser extension that displays your own Canvas LMS assignment deadlines and submission status in a popup. This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with your data.

Summary

DueHelper does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any user data. There is no backend server, no analytics, and no third-party service of any kind. All processing happens locally in your browser.

What the extension accesses

• Canvas API data. When you open the popup, the extension makes read-only requests to the Canvas domain you configured, using your existing browser session. It reads your course list, planner items, assignments, and your own submission status and scores.
• Nothing else. The extension does not read page content, browsing history, cookies, form inputs, or any site other than the Canvas domain you explicitly authorised.

Where data goes

Canvas responses are held in memory only for as long as the popup is open and are rendered directly into the popup. They are never written to disk, never sent anywhere, and are discarded when the popup closes.

What is stored

Two small preferences are saved using Chrome's storage.sync API, which keeps them in your own Google account and syncs them across your signed-in Chrome browsers:

• canvasHost — the Canvas domain you entered (e.g. canvas.example.edu)
• hiddenCourseIds — the numeric IDs of courses you chose to hide

No assignment titles, grades, dates, or personal information are stored. Uninstalling the extension removes these preferences.

Permissions and why they are needed

• storage — to remember your Canvas domain and which courses you have hidden.
• optional_host_permissions: https://*/* — every university runs Canvas on its own domain, and there is no public registry of them, so the extension cannot list them ahead of time. Instead it requests no host access at install time. When you enter your school's domain in the settings page, Chrome prompts you to grant access to that single domain only. The extension can only reach the domain you approved.

Third parties

None. No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no external libraries loaded at runtime. DueHelper is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure, Inc. Canvas is a trademark of Instructure, Inc.

Children's privacy

The extension collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new date at the top.
